Your Buccal Fat Pad Removal Procedure in Bethesda, Maryland

Buccal fat pad removal takes about an hour to complete and is typically done in the office under local anesthesia. When combined with other surgeries, it can also be performed in the operating room under sedation. During the procedure, your surgeon will work to carefully create results according to your bespoke treatment plan.

Buccal fat pad removal or reduction is typically done through tiny incisions on the inside of the mouth. This allows for the procedure to be done without any visible external scars. Through these small incisions, your surgeon can gently reduce the buccal fat pads on either side of your face, creating a more contoured appearance to your face. Your incision is then carefully closed with dissolvable stitches.

Once the procedure is over, you’ll spend a small amount of time resting in our recovery area. Since this is an outpatient procedure, you will be able to return home on the same day. When done under local anesthesia, you will be able to drive yourself home. There is no need for facial bandages and you are able to eat after your procedure. Our team will be available to you at all times during your recovery period to address any questions that might arise.

Looking Forward to Your Results

After your procedure, you’ll experience a small amount of facial swelling that will be very similar to what one might experience after having their wisdom teeth removed. This swelling will only last for a couple of days, however, and the discomfort during this time should be minimal and easily managed. Our surgeons use dissolvable sutures during the procedure, eliminating the need for their removal in the future.

As your swelling subsides, you’ll start to notice the final results of your treatment. The final results are typically fully evident within one to three months. We’ll ensure that you have everything you need to stay comfortable during your recovery period, and we’ll be available to you at all times.
