Getting Started with Your Initial Consultation

Before we begin your open rhinoplasty surgery, it’s important that we’re able to meet with you for a highly informative initial consultation. This experience is ideal for setting the stage for your entire cosmetic experience and gives you the opportunity to enjoy a full and complete understanding of what we can do for you and how we’ll go about creating your ideal results. You’ll get to ask any questions you might have, so you can enjoy total peace of mind.

Dr. Porter will then explain the technique and procedure to you in great detail. Since every surgery is customized according to the patient’s goals and physical characteristics, you’ll learn about your bespoke surgical plan, and your surgeon will explain the procedure to you from start to finish. You’ll even be given a clear idea of what you can expect from your recovery period, along with a detailed set of aftercare instructions to help you recover comfortably.

The Open Rhinoplasty Technique

With the open rhinoplasty technique, your surgeon will make a small incision on the columella, which runs down the middle of your nose. This small, Z-shaped incision will enable your surgeon to lift completely visualize the underlying structure of your nose to begin the procedure.

Thanks to the improved view your surgeon will have of your underlying nasal structure, they’ll be able to make more significant changes. This technique is ideal for those who are interested in more moderate physical enhancements and/or improved breathing function.

Once your surgeon has appropriately repositioned tissues and adjusted your nasal structure, they will carefully close your incisions. While this surgery leaves a small scar on the underside of your nose, it will be very difficult for the casual observer to notice it.

Recovery After Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty typically involves relatively minimal post-procedural bruising, and most patients are able to return to work within about seven days or less. You will likely need makeup and/or concealer to mask the presence of any residual bruising, but most patients feel quite comfortable returning to their normal schedules and lighter activities after just a week of rest and recovery. By the six-week mark, you will be noticing that the vast majority of your swelling has subsided. We’ll be sure to set follow-up appointments at strategic intervals that help us monitor your recovery process, and we’ll be available to you at all times, as well.
