Dr. Mariel O. Watkins is a highly trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon known for her thoughtful, artistic approach and her commitment to helping patients look and feel like the most elevated version of themselves. A Foundation in Science and the Arts

From an early age, Dr. Watkins was drawn to both science and the arts. Growing up internationally, she developed a deep curiosity about the human body while also cultivating her musical talent as a violinist. She went on to become concertmaster of the Detroit School of Arts Orchestra, performing alongside the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and for world leaders. This unique combination of precision, creativity, and discipline now defines her surgical style— meticulous, refined, and deeply attuned to detail.

Dr. Watkins graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Cum Laude, from Rutgers University. She received her Master of Health Science with Highest Honors from Meharry Medical College, where she later attended medical school. During her time there, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, serving as Class President, President of the American Medical Association, and founding multiple peer mentorship initiatives—all while graduating at the top of her class.

She completed her Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of Michigan, one of the top programs in the country, where she received rigorous training in both functional and aesthetic surgery of the face and neck. During this time, she received grant funding to develop physician well-being and coaching initiatives—reflecting her long-standing commitment to holistic care, not only for patients, but for the medical community as a whole.

Dr. Watkins then pursued advanced fellowship training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, further refining her aesthetic eye and surgical expertise. During fellowship, she also obtained formal certification in coaching, strengthening her ability to partner with patients in a more meaningful and personalized way.

Her approach to care is what truly sets her apart. Dr. Watkins views each patient relationship as a collaboration—guiding, educating, and supporting patients through every stage of their journey. By integrating surgical excellence with lifestyle, skincare, and preventative strategies, she helps patients achieve natural, lasting results that evolve beautifully over time.
