Renew Your Confidence with Vaginal Rejuvenation

For many women, some of these changes can involve the vaginal area. This can lead to several significant side effects, including decreased sexual pleasure, urinary incontinence, and an enlarged vaginal opening. If you’ve experienced any of these changes, the solution may be simpler than you realize. At Chevy Chase Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer surgical vaginal rejuvenation to help women restore the youthful feel, function, and appearance of the vaginal area.

What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a broad term for several procedures performed to rejuvenate the feel, function, and appearance of the vagina. For women seeking major vaginal rejuvenation, there are a couple of different effective surgical procedures to choose from:

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be used either to construct or repair a vagina. The surgery often involves removing excess skin, tightening the vaginal tissue, and reducing the size of the vaginal opening. Vaginoplasty is often performed on patients who want to tighten the vaginal canal and increase sexual function and/or pleasure after going through pregnancy and childbirth.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure used to reduce or increase the size of the labia. The labia are the folds of skin around the vaginal opening, and many women are self-conscious about the size of these folds. Labiaplasty is typically performed for cosmetic reasons, but it can also be performed to decrease physical discomfort or as part of gender-affirming treatment.

Benefits of Vaginal Rejuvenation

Surgical vaginal rejuvenation can offer several notable benefits, including:

Improves vaginal appearance
Provides tighter, more youthful vaginal tissue
Improves sexual pleasure
Lessens sexual discomfort
Reduces the size of abnormally large labia
Alleviates urinary incontinence
Increases vaginal lubrication and moisture
Strengthens weak vaginal muscles

Your Vaginal Rejuvenation Consultation

If you’re considering vaginal rejuvenation, the first step to take will be a consultation with Dr. Landford. She’ll have questions about what you’re hoping to achieve from the procedure. The doctor will discuss your different treatment options with you, answer all of your questions, and work with you to devise a custom-tailored treatment plan based on your specific goals.

What Should I Expect During the Procedure?

Your vaginal rejuvenation surgery will likely be performed as an outpatient procedure using either local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your preferences and the specifics of the procedure. The details of the surgery will depend on which procedure you’re undergoing and your treatment plan. Usually, the surgery will involve some combination of removing, adjusting, and tightening skin and tissue in and around the vagina. On average, vaginal rejuvenation surgery takes one to two hours. You can leave the facility a couple of hours later, but you’ll need someone to drive you home.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

Your recovery time after vaginal rejuvenation surgery will depend on the specifics of your procedure. You’ll need to rest for several days, but you should be able to start easing into light activities after that. Most patients can return to work and resume their normal routines after approximately one week. However, you will likely need to avoid strenuous physical activity for four to six weeks, and you may need to wait six to eight weeks to engage in sexual intercourse.

Am I a Candidate for Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Adult women who want to improve the function, appearance, and/or feel of their vagina could be good candidates for vaginal rejuvenation surgery. Ideal candidates for the treatment should:

Be in generally good physical health
Have the desire to adjust the size of their labia
Have the desire to achieve tighter, more youthful vaginal tissue after childbirth or aging
Be experiencing vaginal dryness, painful sexual intercourse, and/or urinary incontinence
Not be currently pregnant or breastfeeding
Have reasonable expectations
Be a non-smoker

What Results Can I Expect From Vaginal Rejuvenation?

If you undergo labiaplasty, the results should be apparent right away. With other vaginal rejuvenation surgeries, it will typically take several weeks for the improvements to become noticeable. The results of labiaplasty are typically permanent, whereas the results of vaginoplasty usually last for at least one to two years.
