Transform Your Abdomen With A Tummy Tuck

As we go through life and get older, there are many factors that can cause our midsections to become loose, saggy, and flabby. This can often be a result of pregnancy and childbirth, genetics, or simply the natural effects of aging. Numerous people experience these unfortunate bodily changes, and typically, exercise and dieting alone aren’t enough to reverse them. If you’re looking for a truly effective way to achieve a slimmer, more toned abdomen, you may want to consider a tummy tuck.

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, is a popular cosmetic surgical procedure performed to create a tighter, more defined midsection. The procedure is frequently used to help individuals restore their previous figures after weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or the effects of aging.

How Is a Tummy Tuck Performed?

During a tummy tuck, Dr. Landford will typically remove excess skin, fat, and other tissues from the abdominal area. She will also adjust the remaining skin and tissue to create a tighter, firmer abdomen. Additionally, the tummy tuck procedure can involve tightening or reattaching the abdominal muscles with sutures. The extent and specifics of the surgery can vary depending on the needs of the patient.

Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck is a very effective cosmetic surgery that can offer a variety of notable benefits, including:

Creates a firmer, more toned, and more youthful-looking midsection
Eliminates excess abdominal skin and fat
Strengthens the abdominal muscles
Enhances wardrobe options
Improves mobility and athletic performance
Offers long-lasting results
Allows for a customizable procedure
Restores your slim figure after pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or aging

Your Abdominoplasty Consultation

Before you undergo a tummy tuck, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Landford. This meeting will give you the chance to learn more about the surgery, ask any questions you may have, and confirm that you’re a good candidate. Dr. Landford will listen to your specific goals for the procedure and use that information to devise a personalized treatment plan, which will be custom-tailored to help you achieve the midsection of your dreams.

What Should I Expect During the Surgery?

Your tummy tuck surgery will likely be performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia, which means you’ll be temporarily unconscious. To begin, Dr. Landford will make an incision along the bikini line, just above the pubic area. She will then begin making the necessary adjustments to your abdominal skin and tissue based on your unique treatment plan. She will also remove excess pockets of fat and tighten your muscles as needed. The doctor will then secure your remaining skin with stitches and close your incision before applying bandages to the area.

Overall, your tummy tuck should take between two and three hours to complete. You’ll need to stay for monitoring for a few hours after the surgery, but after that, you can return home with someone else driving you.

Am I a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

Adults who want to achieve a tighter, more toned abdomen could be good candidates for a tummy tuck. To be an ideal candidate for the surgery, you should:

Be in generally good physical health
Be relatively close to your ideal weight
Have excess skin and/or fat around the abdomen
Have the desire for a firmer, more youthful-looking midsection
Have reasonable expectations for the procedure
Not be currently pregnant or breastfeeding
Be a non-smoker

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

Following your tummy tuck, you will most likely experience swelling, bruising, and soreness, and you may need to wear a compression garment for several weeks. During the first two weeks of recovery, it’s important to rest frequently, but you should start to take light walks as soon as you can to keep your blood flowing. Most patients are able to return to work and resume their typical routines approximately two weeks after tummy tuck surgery. However, you will need to wait 7 to 10 weeks before engaging in strenuous exercise.

How Long Will It Take To See Results After a Tummy Tuck?

Although you may notice improvements in your midsection immediately, the full effects of your tummy tuck won’t be visible until the swelling has subsided. Usually, you can see the final results of the procedure after around three to six months. The results of your tummy tuck should last for several years or potentially a lifetime, but it will be important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stable weight.
