If your breasts are naturally small or have lost their volume due to childbirth, weight changes, or certain medical conditions, it may cause you to feel embarrassed or self-conscious. Although there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having small breasts, you should be able to have the appearance and physique that you desire. If having larger, more shapely breasts would make you feel better about the way you look, you may want to consider breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a popular cosmetic surgery performed to enhance the size, shape, and overall appearance of the breasts.

Typically, breast augmentation is performed with the use of customized breast implants. These implants, which are made of either silicone or saline solution, are formed to the precise specifications of each patient based on their aesthetic goals. The implants are carefully inserted either beneath the chest muscles or between the muscles and the skin.
Breast augmentation can also be performed using a method called fat transfer. During this procedure, excess fat is removed from another area of the patient’s body before being injected into the breasts. Typically, fat transfer breast augmentation is a popular choice for women seeking only a modest increase in their breast size.

If you’re unhappy with the size of your breasts, breast augmentation could offer you some or all of the following benefits:

If you’re interested in breast augmentation surgery, the first step will be to have a consultation with Dr. Landford. During this meeting, she will discuss different aspects of the procedure with you and answer all of your questions. She will also listen to your specific goals for the surgery and ask you questions to ensure that you’re a good candidate. If you choose to progress with breast augmentation, Dr. Landford will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan, which will include choosing which type of implants you prefer and deciding on their shape and size.
Typically, breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure using either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. To begin the surgery, Dr. Landford will make incisions either underneath the breasts, around the areolas, or underneath the arms. She will then carefully insert your custom-made breast implants, positioning them based on your unique treatment plan. Once the implants have been properly positioned, she will close the incisions with stitches and apply bandages as needed. In total, the surgery should take between one and two hours. You’ll be able to head home a couple of hours after the procedure, but you’ll need someone else to drive you.
On average, patients need around one week of rest after breast augmentation surgery before returning to work and resuming their normal routines. During this time, you should regularly take light walks around the house to keep your blood flowing. You may also need to wear a surgical support bra for several weeks, and you will likely experience bruising, swelling, and tenderness. To ensure proper healing, you’ll need to avoid strenuous physical activity for at least four to six weeks.

Adults who would like to enhance the size of their breasts could be good candidates for breast augmentation.

When you undergo breast augmentation with implants, you’ll need to choose between silicone and saline breast implants. Each type of implant has its advantages and disadvantages:
Silicone implants consist of firm silicone shells filled with soft silicone gel. Generally, silicone implants are considered to look and feel more natural than saline implants. However, they come with slightly more risk than saline implants, and you need to be 22 or older to get them.
Saline implants also feature a firm silicone shell, but they are filled with sterile saline solution. Some people believe that saline implants look and feel firmer than natural breasts. However, they are very safe; if a saline implant ruptures, your body can easily absorb the saline solution. Patients who are 18 or older can choose to get saline breast implants. Typically, saline breast implants are inserted into the chest while empty and then filled.
