What Should I Expect During the Surgery?
After Weight Loss Surgery is usually an outpatient procedure performed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. The details of your surgery will depend on where your excess skin is located and how much skin needs to be removed. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Landford will begin carefully adjusting and excising excess skin based on your treatment plan. She will then secure the remaining skin with sutures. The length of the surgery can be anywhere from one to four hours depending on the patient.
You’ll need to hang around for monitoring for a few hours after the procedure. After that, you can return home, but a friend or family member will need to drive you. Ideally, they should also remain with you for the first night of recovery.
