Regain Self Confidence with a Breast Lift

Fortunately, restoring the perky, youthful appearance of your breasts may be a more attainable goal than you realize. Breast lift surgery could be exactly what you need to regain your voluptuous figure and self-confidence.

What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a popular cosmetic surgery performed to lift and reshape the breasts. Usually, the goal of the procedure is to make the breasts rounder, firmer, and perkier.

How Is a Breast Lift Performed?

The specifics of a breast lift surgery will depend on the unique needs and aesthetic goals of the patient. Typically, the procedure involves the removal and adjustment of excess breast skin and tissue. The surgeon may also lift and tighten muscles in the chest to lift the breasts. In most cases, the nipples are elevated to match the new position of the breasts. To achieve comprehensive breast enhancement, many patients opt to have a breast lift and breast augmentation simultaneously, including the insertion of breast implants.

Your Breast Lift Consultation

Before you undergo a breast lift, you’ll need to sit down for a consultation with Dr. Landford. She will discuss your treatment options with you and answer any questions you may have about the procedure. She’ll then work with you to devise a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs and what you’re hoping to achieve from the surgery.

What Should I Expect During the Surgery?

Your breast lift surgery will likely be performed as an outpatient procedure, and you will be administered either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. To begin the procedure, Dr. Landford will make small incisions depending on the specifics of your treatment plan. Typically, there will be circular incisions around the areolas, and there may also be vertical incisions running downward from the areolas.

Once the incisions have been made, Dr. Landford will begin removing and adjusting excess skin and tissue. She may also tighten and reshape the muscles in the area. Once these enhancements have been made, the doctor will create new nipple positions to better fit your lifted breasts. Finally, the incisions will be closed with sutures, and bandages will be applied as needed. Overall, breast lift surgery typically takes between one and three hours. You can usually return home a couple of hours after the procedure, but someone else will need to drive.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

After your breast lift procedure, Dr. Landford will advise you on how to ensure that your recovery goes smoothly. For example, you’ll likely need to wear a surgical support bra for several weeks and rest frequently for a week or two. Most patients are able to return to their normal routines after one to two weeks, but it’s important to refrain from strenuous physical activity for four to six weeks. During the early part of your recovery, you may also experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the treatment area.

Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Adults who would like to lift and enhance the shape of their breasts could be good candidates for a breast lift. To be an ideal candidate for the procedure, you should:

  • Be in generally good physical health
  • Have fully developed breasts
  • Be experiencing significant sagging of the breasts
  • Have the desire for lifted, perkier breasts
  • Have realistic expectations for the surgery
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Not be currently pregnant or nursing
