Depending on your location, your consultation may be completed virtually or in person. Your surgeon will evaluate your concerns, discuss your goals, and determine whether you are a candidate for the procedure you are considering.

If surgery is recommended, our team will guide you through the next steps so you can begin planning your visit.

TRAVELING BY TRAIN OR BUS

For patients traveling from New York, New Jersey, or Philadelphia, Bethesda is easily accessible by train or coach bus. We recommend planning your transportation in advance, particularly if you are traveling for surgery.

From New York

By Train - Amtrak offers direct service from New York Moynihan Train Hall to Washington, D.C., including Acela and Northeast Regional service. Patients can travel to Washington, D.C. Union Station and arrange a private car, rideshare, or taxi to their Bethesda hotel.

By Bus - FlixBus and Greyhound offer service from New York to Washington, D.C., with trips starting at approximately 3.5 hours, depending on the schedule. Both carriers also list a Bethesda stop at 4550 Montgomery Ave, making this a convenient option for patients staying in Bethesda.

From New Jersey

By Train - Patients traveling from New Jersey can connect to Amtrak or NJ TRANSIT services through Newark or Trenton before continuing toward Washington, D.C.

For patients located in North or Central New Jersey, Newark Penn Station can be a convenient departure point for Amtrak service to Washington, D.C.

By Bus - Coach bus options are available from several New Jersey communities to New York City or Philadelphia, where patients can connect with onward service to Washington, D.C.

From Philadelphia

By Train - Amtrak offers direct Acela and Northeast Regional services between Philadelphia 30th Street Station and Washington, D.C. Patients can travel to Washington, D.C. Union Station and arrange a private car, rideshare, or taxi to their Bethesda hotel.

By Bus - FlixBus and Greyhound offer coach service between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., with trips starting at approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, depending on the schedule.

Arriving in Bethesda

For patients arriving by train or bus, we recommend arranging transportation from your arrival location to your hotel in advance.

Before surgery: Rideshare, taxi, or private transportation may be used based on your individual travel plans.

AFTER SURGERY

For your safety and comfort, you will need to have a responsible friend or family member who is at least 18 years of age available to accompany you upon discharge from the hospital and stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery.

If you are traveling alone, a private nurse concierge or qualified postoperative caregiver may be arranged to provide transportation and assistance as required by your surgical team. Our Patient Coordinators can provide nurse concierge recommendations if needed.

Important: Uber, Lyft, taxis, and other rideshare services cannot be used as your transportation after surgery.

Travel Tip: Plan your transportation and postoperative support before traveling to Bethesda, so everything is arranged in advance, and you can focus on your recovery.
