There has been quite some buzz recently about reality stars getting plastic surgery. One of which I read about was a “Real Housewife” who had a facelift and necklift performed. She debuted her results 2 weeks after her surgery on live TV and raved about the results. She was quoted as saying, “Don’t call it a facelift, call it a comeback!” I thought that was great! She regained her confidence and vitality with a surgery and felt reinvigorated. This is a common feeling after a facelift! Many patients tell me they feel that improving their jawline and neck gave them back the youthfulness to match their spirit. If you’ve been considering the surgery and are curious regarding the recovery afterwards I am here to help. After surgery, the downtime can vary for each individual but most patients are back to their normal routine by 1-2 weeks. Bruising is common after the surgery and usually after 1 week, any residual bruising can be covered easily with makeup. After the surgery, dressing and wraps are used around the face and neck. These are used for compression and to protect the incisions. The day after surgery fresh dressings are replaced. I advise all my patients to take at least 1-2 weeks off from exercising and heavy aerobic activity. This allows your blood pressure to remain stable throughout the recovery process and prevents complications related to bleeding. When done right, the surgery can be life changing. I always ask my patients after the recovery if they would do it all over again and they have always given me the same answer. A resounding YES! It is worth the result. If you’re interested in the procedure or have any questions, please schedule a consultation at Chevy Chase Facial Plastic Surgery.
