Summer is here!! With the 4th of July upon us, how do we keep our skin healthy while still enjoying all that the summer has to offer? Hot summer days full of fun in the sun!
- The first mantra of the summer is to keep the skin protected. Gone are the days when we use to slather on baby oil and roast over reflectors to get as much sun as we could. Now we are all aware of what is necessary to protect our skin; application of lotion with SPF 30 is enough to protect our skin from the harmful UVA & UVB rays. Reapplication is necessary every few hours if you are out swimming or exercising. ELTA MD suncare is our favorite line of products.
- Application of antioxidants to the skin would help to scavenge free radicals, further preventing sun damage. Products such as Obagi Vitamin C serum or Dermal Repair Cream facilitate this process and helps your skin to glow. Whats more, they will not make you more sun sensitive.
- Wear a hat when out and about. Wearing a wade brimmed hat while at the beach or when your out for a walk will further protect your facial skin from the UVA & UVB rays as a physical block. Baseball caps are insufficient blockage as they only shield the forehead and nose leaving the cheeks fully exposed. People that wear baseball caps chronically as their “protection” from the sun tend to have significant sun damage on the lateral cheeks.
- Treatments that stimulate the collagen in your skin help to combat aging effects of the sun. Over time chronic sun exposure, including that from our childhood, ravages our skin elasticity lessens. Increasing the collagen production with treatments like Viora Reaction or Thermage CPT Total Tip will help to restore our collagen production to more youthful levels.
