Laser skin treatment is offered by Chevy Chase Facial Plastic Surgery in the Washington D.C. area as an alternative to other skin resurfacing techniques such as chemical peel and microdermabrasion. Skin resurfacing involves removing the damaged surface layer of skin so that the epidermis can generate a new top layer. The skin produced after a resurfacing procedure is tighter and free of the sun damage, scarring, and fine lines that the former skin exhibited. Dr. Jennifer Parker Porter performs laser skin treatment procedures that focus on eliminating fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, and general sun damage from the face’s problem areas such as the skin around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.

When performing a laser skin treatment, Jennifer Parker Porter, MD, employs a technique called Micro Laser Peel™ that uses an erbium laser to treat the outermost layers of the skin. While erbium laser technology is capable of accomplishing a deep dermal resurfacing, the real advantage of the technology is the ability to adjust the equipment to a more shallow depth than traditional erbium peels. This allows for shorter recovery times than more invasive forms of laser treatment. The procedure is performed with a topical anesthetic and recovery can be accomplished in as little as three days.
