Dr. Jennifer Parker Porter, a board-certified plastic surgeon, offers individuals in Bethesda, MD, and Washington, D.C., brow lift cosmetic surgery. By undergoing surgical brow lift, or forehead lift, you can achieve a lifted eyebrow line, resulting in a happier, reinvigorated and more youthful look overall.
What Brow Lift Accomplishes
Brow lift is a surgical procedure designed to raise the eyebrow line. By elevating a sagging eyebrow line, you can improve the appearance of severe forehead wrinkles, including the deep horizontal furrows that extend across the forehead, making you look frustrated, worried or depressed. Brow lift surgery can also improve the look of vertical lines that often develop between the eyebrows; sagging eyebrows that hang too low over the eyes; and even crow’s feet (the pesky fine lines at the outside corners of the eyes). Whether your sagging brow line is an inherited trait that has been bothering you since youth or a recent development that has occurred due to the natural aging process, brow lift surgery can help.

What to Expect During Brow Lift Surgery
Dr. Jennifer Parker Porter takes the endoscopic approach to brow lift surgery, when medically appropriate for the patient. During endoscopic brow lift, Dr. Porter makes several small incisions in the treatment area (above the hairline), through which she inserts her surgical instruments. One of the principal surgical devices used during this approach is an endoscope — a long, thin instrument with a camera on the end of it. The camera transmits a video feed from inside the treatment area onto a screen in the operating room, so the facial plastic surgeon can monitor the progress of surgery.
The endoscopic approach to surgery is much less invasive than the conventional “open” approach, which involves making a more extensive coronal (headphone-shaped) incision along the inside of the hairline. The less-invasive endoscopic approach typically allows for a quicker and less intense recovery period, with the same rejuvenating results.
In circumstances in which a patient’s hairline appears to be too high, a trichophytic incision along the hairline may be needed to reduce the height of the forehead skin. In cases in which the area between the eyebrows is in a good position, a temporal brow lift alone may be sufficient to provide the desired aesthetic results. A temporal brow lift involves lifting the lateral aspect of the brow only.
Note: Combining the procedure with BOTOX® Cosmetic can prevent worry lines from reappearing.
Recovering From Brow Lift
Following surgery, the treatment area may be tender, numb, swollen or bruised; these are normal symptoms that should improve over time. During the later stages of your recovery, you may experience an itchy feeling, as the nerves in the treatment area heal.
Expect to take about seven days off from work following brow lift surgery. During this time, keep your head elevated for about three days, even while sleeping. It is important that you get plenty of rest, avoid strenuous activity, follow a healthy diet, stay hydrated and avoid smoking to ensure proper healing. You should also avoid using makeup for the first week after surgery, but you can apply light cover-up makeup the following week, as long as you do not apply it directly on the incision sites.
Dr. Porter will provide you with complete aftercare instructions before the day of your surgery.
